Lifestyle· City Walk
A slow walk through an old neighborhood
Skip the landmarks. Follow the plane trees and the smell of coffee for a whole afternoon.

We chose a route that keeps off the main street: a side road under plane trees, two small shops that only pour coffee by hand, then a lane still hung with laundry and the occasional gecko on a wall.
Halfway, sit on a park bench for twenty minutes. Watch who passes — someone walking a bird, someone practicing tai chi, someone pushing a stroller. The real scale of a city usually shows itself here, not at the gate of a monument.
After four, the light goes sideways. The photograph worth taking is rarely the mural everyone already knows. It is a stained wall, or the shadow of a colonnade. Bring a roll of film, or crop the phone to a square, and force yourself to take fewer frames.
End with something hot from a stall on the corner. A souvenir does not have to live on a refrigerator. It can be a temperature you still remember on the tongue.
